Privacy policy
What we collect, why, and who sees it. Last updated 19 October 2026.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, your name, and your profile photo if you have one. If you sign in with Google, we receive the name, email and photo your Google account shares with us. We never see your password.
- Your tabs: the names and email addresses of the people on a tab, and the expenses, amounts, shares and payments you or they add.
- Emails we send: a record that an invite, reminder or payment notice was sent, so it shows in your notification history.
- Messages you send us: what you write in the contact form, and the email address you give.
- Usage data: basic information about visits, such as pages viewed, device and browser type, and roughly where you are, collected by Google's advertising and analytics tags.
How we use it
To run mateshare: sign you in, show your tabs to the people on them, work out who owes what, and send the invite and reminder emails you ask for. We also use it to answer your messages, keep the service secure, and understand how the site is used so we can improve it and measure our advertising.
We don't sell your information.
Who sees it
Other people on your tabs see the names, expenses and balances on those tabs. Add only what you're happy for them to see. If you add someone, we email them an invitation containing your name and the tab's name.
Service providers process data on our behalf:
- Clerk, for accounts and sign-in.
- Supabase, which stores the database (hosted in Sydney, Australia).
- Resend, which delivers our emails.
- Vercel, which hosts the site.
- Google, for advertising and analytics tags.
Some of these providers may handle data outside Australia. We may also share information if the law requires it.
Cookies
We use cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and to remember small preferences. Google's tags set their own cookies for advertising and analytics. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, but signing in needs them.
How long we keep it
Your tabs stay until they're deleted. Archiving a tab hides it but doesn't delete it. Account details are kept while your account exists. Ask us to delete your account or a tab and we will, apart from anything we have to keep by law.
Your choices
You can ask to see, correct or delete the personal information we hold about you, or tell us you don't want to hear from us. Email support@mateshare.app or use the contact form. If you think we've mishandled your information and we haven't sorted it out, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (oaic.gov.au).
Changes
We may update this policy from time to time and will change the date above. See also our terms of use.
